November 26-30

Hello everyone! And welcome to our first blog post!
I'm excited to start this new platform where everyone can see the cool things we do in class
every week. Please make sure you subscribe to the blog. There should a tab for it on the
side.

This week flew by. We’re back to our usual progression on phonics and sight words.
We’re also working more on our addition skills. It was also very exciting with the
various science week activities.

Here is what we did this week:

Literacy
This week we start our green level 1 Dolch sight words. Our words this week were
after, from, know, and round. The kids had a little trouble telling the difference between
“no” and “know”. They also sometimes read “round” as “around”, so we will continue to
practice these words next week.
Our phonics focus this week was the OW and NG sounds. We have been practice the
sounds during circle time for a while, but it's nice to put more words to the sounds.
We practiced words
like “cOW”, “tOWn”, “dOWn”, “riNG”, “soNG”, and “thiNG”.

Math
We are continuing to work on addition with visual aids and fingers. This week we practiced
with ladybug spots. The photos should be on seesaw soon. We also did our shopping
list game with math for a change.
The kids really like this game and it’s great to get them moving during math time.
Next week we will shift gears slightly and focus on number bonds to 10.

Unit of Inquiry
This week we did more practice on personal wants and needs. There are some great posters
in our class made by the kids with our classroom definitions. We also got to do
some inquiry centers with wants/needs and organizing. The students have been very interested
in the different ways we can organize. I’m happy to see them so excited about learning!

Science Week
We did lots of science week! Our class science project was about ramps. We had
once ramp with bumpy fabric on it, and one ramp with fuzzy fabric on it. We tested the
two different ramps to see which one would be faster. Grade 6 also came to our class and
made cars with cups and straws. It was great to see the big kids work with our class.
Hopefully we can do more projects like that in the future. Friday we also
had some great costumes and got to check out the science fair.
