January 7-11 2019

Welcome back everyone! It’s great to be back at school. I hope everyone had a fun and restful holiday.
As we enter term 3, we are focusing in on our last unit of inquiry, putting together our YEP performance, and making sure we are ready to move onto kinder. The kids had a great time this week getting back into the groove of learning and playing together.

Here is what we did this week:

Literacy
This week our sight words were as, has, of, and thank. Our phonics sound of the week was IGH. We practiced reading words like nIGHt, fIGHt, and hIGH.
Our next Raz-Kids deadline is will be February 20th. Please reach level E by that date

Math
This week we started advancing a bit more and worked on addition 1-20. I had kids use manipulatives if they needed, but hopefully we can have kids start working on their mental math as well.

Unit of Inquiry
Term 3’s unit is How we Express Ourselves. The central idea is people can use reflection and perspective to grow in art. We will be working on what reflection means, through the medium of art. Why do we like our art? How can we change it? How can we grow?
This week we worked on understand what reflection means. We have 5 “hats” of reflection: thinking, feeling, problems, ideas, and good jobs. We used these ideas to reflect on the work in our drawers and choose our best work.

Announcements
I will be posting winter party pictures soon. Sorry for the delay in sending those out!
There have been a few reports of the flu, as well as some vomiting on the 9th floor. Please be on the lookout, and make sure your students are healthy before sending them to school
Music is now on Mondays with Ms. Kyoko! For YEP the students will be doing Mary Had a Little Lamb on the pianica. Please help them to practice at home
Uehara-sensei said goodbye for our PE classes last term. He is still around for sports club, but in the meantime there is no designated PE teacher
A bit old, but we have a new student in our class! Aruna joined Pre-K B during the last week before the holiday. She is still learning English and Japanese, but the kids are happy to show her around.
The next Raz-Kids deadline is February 20th. Please reach level E by that time.
The park is getting a bit cold, so please send your students with a jacket on our park days.
